[2/3] Carrot Cake
[2/3]菜头粿// 萝卜糕 == Carrot Cake 🥕 While it is more commonly known as carrot cake, would it be more correct to call it as radish cake? Probably one of the few traditional food that is still fave and enjoyed by many even till today! However, how many of us actually know about its origin and more? Probably due to it being easily available, it would not even be surprise that the main ingredient is actually white radish and not carrot. In fact, some red carrot are used to “add” colour to it! Maybe it is more auspicious this way? A famous traditional food especially for the Hokkiens and Teochew, where you could have it for breakfast, tea break between meals or even as a main meal itself, the process of making a good carrot cake is never easy! And how many actually still made them by hand? Today, we see various ways of eating them. From eating them right after steaming them, to going with sweat peanut sauce, deep fried, wrapped it with egg sheet or even stirred fried one that is commonly found locally;to each it’s own liking yeah?! 😋 But do you know why we eat them? - beside filling our stomach, what symbolic meaning does it has? And when is a must to have them?
